PORT MORESBY, November 29, 2024 –The World Bank has approved the National Energy Access Transformation (NEAT) Project, a $204 million initiative that will improve the lives of over 400,000 Papua New Guineans by providing reliable electricity. The Government of Papua New Guinea, with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Japan, today inaugurated the Advancing Energy Access: PNG Mini-grid Policy and Implementation Conference in Port Moresby. The project will support the GoPNG in achieving its energy access target through. The project will directly benefit rural households, small businesses, and communities across PNG, improving their access to electricity, which is vital for economic growth, healthcare, education, and overall development.
