El Salvador consumes six bn kWh of electric energy per year. Per capita, this is an average of 1,020 kWh. El Salvador can partly be self-sufficient with domestically produced energy, as the total production of all electric energy producing facilities is six bn kWh, which covers 92 percent of the country's own usage. The remaining needed energy is imported from foreign countries.
The upcoming projects in El Salvador include the construction of a Biogas Power Generation Plant on the Acelhuate River in San Salvador, the commissioning of a photovoltaic plant at the 15 de Septiembre Hydroelectric Plant, and the establishment of a wind park in Metapán, Santa Ana.
Will El Salvador get a FSRU?
In addition to introducing the first LNG-fueled power plant to El Salvador, this project includes the first FSRU for the region. Regulations needed to be formulated and approved for offshore gas storage as well as for transportation to shore.
