New energy battery cabinet discharge current limit

The discharge current has been varied from 0.2C to 1C and ambient/chamber temperature has been varied from 0 °C to 45 °C. The simulation parameters have been listed in Tables S1, S2 & S3 of the supplementary information.

To address this challenge, we define the current limit estimate (CLE), which is the maximum current that can be extracted and sustained from the LIB system for a given pulse duration, at a given point of discharge SOC, at a particular cell temperature, that will take the LIB system to a pre-defined voltage cut-off at the end of the pulse.

The input current limit is active during normal operation as well as during startup. This effectively limits the inrush current, and can also be used to reliably charge heavy loads, such as a supercapacitor, from a weak battery. The converter has eight current limit settings going down to 1 mA, as listed in Table 1.

The ability of the battery to support such peak power demand may be compromised at low temperatures and it is critical to be able to estimate the available power at any instance of time given the ambient temperature and state of charge of the battery.

The discharge performance of LIBs has different requirements than charging, as the battery needs to satisfy required discharge power, for example, to support speeding or climbing in EVs and playing games or using power hungry apps on mobile electronics. Often times there is need for short bursts of large power or pulse power to support the load.

The CLE concept PLE or power limit estimation is widely used to characterize battery state of power, whose main aim is to calculate the limits of a battery operation through the maximum power/current extractable at a particular time point in charge/discharge [15, 29].
