Supercapacitors have characteristics that are common to both batteries and traditional capacitors. As a result, a supercapacitor can be used as a secondary battery when applied in a DC circuit. These devices are best suited for use in low voltage, DC hold-up applications such as embedded microprocessor systems with flash memory.

Electrostatic capacitors have higher power density than supercapacitors, but they can reach up to 10 kWkg−1. However, the specific energy of the supercapacitor is several orders higher in magnitude than that of electrostatic capacitors .

The CV analysis reported areal capacitance of 151.5 mFcm−2. The GCD analysis reveals that the dual electrode based photo supercapacitors have 98% retention of specific capacitance under daylight up to 10,000 cycles.

A promising solution is the battery-type hybrid supercapacitor, which merges the charge storage mechanisms of both supercapacitors and batteries, offering the advantages of both high power and energy density.

Electrochemical supercapacitors stand out with their superior capacitance density, surpassing traditional electrolytic capacitors by at least two orders of magnitude. However, the intrinsic slow ion dynamics of electrical double layer effects greatly limit supercapacitors characteristic frequency, constraining their applicability in microsystems.
