Contact UsAccording to Russian suppliers for solar power plants (altecology.ru, 2019; Solar controller, 2020), the average cost of equipment for solar power plants with an installed capacity of 10 MW is 310 million rubles.
According to experts' forecasts (ural56.ru, 2019), by the end of 2020, at least three more SPP with a total installed capacity of about 90 MW should be put into operation. Moreover, some solar stations are hybrid and generate energy together with wind and biogas plants.
Our findings demonstrate that the payback of solar power plants in Russia without government support at the current energy prices can be achieved when they operate at the retail electricity markets. In this case, the payback period does not exceed 15 years.
The Orenburg region is one of the long-term leaders among the regions of Russia, not only in terms of the potential of solar energy (about 300 sunny days a year) (Kommersant, 2020; Rambler, 2020) (Figure 5), but also in terms of the rate of development of this sector in the country. FIGURE 5.
