Moreover, this study suggests a hybrid energy system model incorporating endogenous technological change to comprehensively investigate the impact of CCS cost changes. Previous studies have generally analyzed technological change based on an energy system model or a computable general equilibrium model (CGE).
The steel industry reduces its emissions based on efficiency improvements and carbon capture. In terms of efficiency improvements, the steel industry will introduce 17 new efficient technologies and provide boiler, oven, motor, own power generator, and dryer energy services with less energy inputs.
CCS cost reduction contributes to mitigating the negative economic impact of CCS on steel production and GDP and reduces the reluctance of the steel industry to adopt it. Second, this study shows that it is possible to incorporate endogenous learning at the technology level in a hybrid energy system model.
