Historically, the Amsterdam port has been an energy port, which we also want to be in the future. In order to remain an energy port in the future, we are looking for new cargo flows and ways to generate sustainable energy to meet our climate goals. We do this together with the energy customers in the port and with other partners.

The Port of Amsterdam will replace all existing shoreside power units with smart green power cabinets by the end of 2021 as part of the port's clean energy overhaul. The shore power cabinets can be operated using the Park-line app, indicating how much power is needed by customers.

In the Amsterdam port area, we deal with congestion on the electricity grid, which makes activities surrounding the energy transition difficult to expand. With this in mind, we worked with companies within the Amsterdam port and launched the Energy Cooperation Amsterdam port.

Starting October 2024, the implementation organisation "Energy for the City" (Energy voor de Stad) will lead the city's energy transition efforts to meet this target. The Port of Amsterdam is leading the way to becoming one of Europe's most sustainable ports by 2030.

Energy communities in Amsterdam involve residents, businesses, and stakeholders working together to produce, share, and manage renewable energy. These initiatives focus on boosting sustainability, lowering energy costs, and empowering local decision-making.
