For a holistic understanding of the acceptance effects of solar power production in agrivoltaic systems, it is essential to reflect that technologies are always embedded in a socio-technical human-technology-environment system, that is, interact with both the groups of actors involved and the regional setting.
There are various actors to be considered in the implementation of agrivoltaics. They can be distinguished based on four functions: (1) providing the land (ownership); (2) agricultural management of the land; (3) providing agrivoltaic systems (ownership/investment); and (4) operating the PV system.
Agrivoltaics, the practice of co-locating photovoltaic (PV) systems and agricultural activity, addresses two critical challenges: the demand for clean energy and the preservation of fertile farmland. As ground-mounted PV installations often draw criticism for occupying agricultural land, agrivoltaics offers a win-win alternative.
