The first flywheel unit of the Dinglun Flywheel Energy Storage Power Station in Changzhi City, Shanxi Province, was connected by project owner Shenzen Energy Group recently.
The project is pioneering the use of a semi-buried underground well system. It is designed to provide a safe environment for waterproofing, cooling, operation, and maintenance of the flywheel unit. The construction of the Dinglun Flywheel Energy Storage Power Station began in July 2023.
The flywheel system charges and discharges through the plant's high-voltage auxiliary power section, dynamically adjusting real-time load to modify the generator's grid-connected power output, thereby optimizing the power generation capabilities of the thermal units.
China has successfully connected its 1st large-scale standalone flywheel energy storage project to the grid. The project is located in the city of Changzhi in Shanxi Province. The power output of the facility is 30 MW and it is equipped with 120 high-speed magnetic levitation flywheel units.
The Shandong company's flywheel energy storage project, designated as a demonstration project by the National Energy Administration, aims to explore the potential of flywheel storage technology in secondary frequency regulation for Automatic Generation Control (AGC).
