Sodium is the sixth most abundant element on Earth's crust and can be efficiently harvested from seawater.
Given the lower costs and safety improvements, sodium-ion batteries are likely to become central to future Electric Vehicles (EVs). These batteries facilitate a diversified supply chain, reducing dependency on specific countries for critical minerals important for green energy transition. The potential of sodium-ion batteries is extensive.
One of the main attractions of sodium-ion batteries is their cost-effectiveness. The abundance of sodium contributes to lower production costs, paving the way for more affordable energy storage solutions. Furthermore, recent advancements have improved their energy density.
Undeniably Na-ion batteries are the most promising option for enhancing the resilience of our electrical grid, promoting renewable energy storage and distribution, and reducing our dependence on traditional fossil fuels since they involve cost-efficient raw materials and innovative cell designs [12, 13].
