Free QuoteThe small cell base station communicates with the core network over a high-speed backhaul connection. Core network: The core network manages the overall operation of the small cell network, including authentication, authorization, and routing of user traffic.
It includes various functions such as the User Plane Function (UPF), Control Plane Function (CPF), and Session Management Function (SMF). Transport network: The transport network provides the high-speed connectivity between the small cell base station and the core network.
However, these small cell base stations are recognized as potential causes of inter-cell interference, since it is highly probable that they will be deployed using the same radio frequency as used by macrocells, due to the scarcity of avail- able radio frequencies.
Medium-range base stations, which are adapted from microcell scenarios for Outdoor deployment. Small cells support various frequency bands defined by 3GPP [TS38.104], including FR1 and FR2 bands, which may be licensed, shared, or unlicensed, depending on deployment.
A large number of base stations increases the number of people a network can support, while reduced distance to users decreases latency, enabling even faster connectivity. The trend in 5G radio applications is to use higher frequencies and shorter wavelengths.
When a mobile device is close to a small-cell base station, the power needed to transmit the signal is much lower compared to the power needed to transmit a signal from a cell tower far away, thus extending smartphone battery life.
