These charging facilities are among the city's latest efforts to boost green power consumption through the creation of a new energy system that is clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient.
In this study, an evaluation framework for retrofitting traditional electric vehicle charging stations (EVCSs) into photovoltaic-energy storage-integrated charging stations (PV-ES-I CSs) to improve green and low-carbon energy supply systems is proposed.
As shown in Fig. 1, a photovoltaic-energy storage-integrated charging station (PV-ES-I CS) is a novel component of renewable energy charging infrastructure that combines distributed PV, battery energy storage systems, and EV charging systems.
“Solar-storage-charging” refers to systems which use distributed solar PV generation equipment to create energy which is then stored and later used to charge electric vehicles. This model combines solar PV, energy storage, and vehicle charging technologies together, allowing each to support and coordinate with one another.
Therefore, transforming traditional electric vehicle charging stations (EVCSs) around residential areas into charging systems integrated with “distributed PV + energy storage” is among the most direct ways to reduce emissions (Saber & Venayagamoorthy, 2011).
