In addition to providing protection, the BMS regulates the environment of the battery by controlling the heating or cooling systems to keep the battery working within its ideal temperature range.
Contact UsA typical BMS consists of: Battery Management Controller (BMC): The brain of the BMS, processing real-time data. Voltage and Current Sensors: Measures cell voltage and current. Temperature Sensors: Monitor heat variations. Balancing Circuit: Ensures uniform charge distribution. Power Supply Unit: Provides energy to the BMS components.
One of the key functions of a BMS is cell balancing, which ensures that each cell in a battery pack is charged and discharged uniformly. Cells in series often exhibit slight differences in capacity, causing certain cells to overcharge or undercharge.
A well-designed BMS minimizes the wear and tear on the battery, leading to a longer operational life. For example, by preventing deep discharge or extreme overcharging, the BMS preserves the battery's capacity and avoids accelerated aging.
These protections include over-current (OC), over-voltage (OV), under-voltage (UV), over-temperature (OT), and under-temperature (UT) conditions. The BMS guarantees the battery's longevity and safety by prohibiting it from running outside of its safe operating area (SOA).
