Germany installs photovoltaic energy storage project

1. Verbund Visiolar Germany solar PV park The Verbund Visiolar solar PV park is a sizable project planned near Berlin, with a capacity of 2,000 MW. This solar plant will span 3,459 acres at first, with plans to expand further across 49,421 acres. Its sheer scale makes it one of Germany's most anticipated solar projects.

As has been the case in many of Germany's recent solar PV auctions, the Innovation Tender ended up oversubscribed, with 154 bids made for 1.8GW of capacity out of 583MW tendered capacity.

Sustained growth is forecasted in the market for new PV capacity for years to come. Concurrently, battery systems are expected to reach a capacity of at least 100 GWh by 2030, reflecting a transformative shift within the German energy system towards renewable energy integration.

Battery storage is needed to supplement the country's rapid rollout of renewable energy installations, which reached a new record share in electricity production of 55 percent in 2024.
