Price of household energy storage power supply in Botswana

Botswana, June 2022: The price of electricity is 0.096 U.S. Dollar per kWh for households and 0.114 U.S. Dollar for businesses which includes all components of the electricity bill such as the cost of power, distribution and taxes.

Prior to this period, most of Botswana's electricity was imported from South Africa's power utility, Eskom. In 2008 South Africa's electricity demand started to exceed its supply, resulting in the South African government restricting power exports.

The section combines the local generation and imported electricity to come up with electricity that is available for distribution in Botswana. This does not take into account electricity used for auxiliary services, pumping, network losses as well as the production of electricity through incineration of waste.

The Morupule Power A plant of capacity 132 MWH was augmented with the construction of Morupule Power B plant having production capacity of 600 MWH (BPC Annual Report, 2010). The Index of Electricity Generation is a Laspeyres index. The weighted average for electricity generation equals one because there are no various electricity products.
