Typhoon power outage outdoor power supply

According to the Japanese Meteorological Agency, there was a high frequency of landed typhoons in September and October 38 reported severe power outages concentrated in this period. Table 2 provides a summary of component failures caused by typhoon events based on company reports.

In Japan, extreme typhoon events trigger extended power outages, and self-power generations help meet critical loads and improve home energy resiliency, according to an analysis that uses energy utility datasets and household load profiles.

Typhoon is an extreme weather condition that can be devastating to power grids, and its enormous destructive effect often leads to line breakdowns and failures.

With the frequent occurrence of typhoon disaster and the resulting large-scale power outage losses, the risk assessment of power system under typhoon damage has been widely concerned. In this paper, we summarize the research status of risk assessment of power system under typhoon damage. Firstly, we introduce several classical wind field model.

GPGC provided customer outage and pole damage data for three of these typhoons: Rammasun (2014), Kalmaegi (2014) and Mujigae (2015) were used in this study. We generated a 1 km×1 km grid to cover all of Xuwen. This grid contains 1,754 grid cells and it was used for aggregating all of the power system, environmental and typhoon data.

Here, we characterize utility-scale power outages using publicly available data, Fig. 2 illustrates 2-week grid electricity loads (blue lines) and regional solar PV generation (yellow lines) at 60-min interval before, during and after typhoon events. The red dot denotes the specific grid load at the time the greatest number of customers lost power.
